National Airspace and Airport Congestion Case Study

Commercial and general aviation will continue to experience an increase in air traffic for the foreseeable future. This congestion has been proven to cause costly delays and potential hazards to commercial aviation and the airport environment. Several major airports in metropolitan areas as well as the National Airspace System have been facing airport traffic and congestion issues over the last decades. Significant government dollars and resources have been utilized to asses and mitigate these issues. This case study has revealed some of the congestion issues at airports utilized by ExpressJet Airlines in their hub and spoke route structure. Numerous government documents, websites and case studies have been used to assess the current state of these airports, future traffic projections, as well as plans to cope with the issue.
